This app is not working!!! This app crashes all the time now. It was working well until update a couple weeks ago. Since then, there have been at least 2 updates (presumably to fix the now trashed application). Why have Alexa if the app to work it doesn't work? Why should I buy from Amazon when I'm not being supported? App is crashing on Samsung S7 phone and Samsung Tablet S5E.
Used to work great with Phillip's Hue, but lately loses connection with them and refuses to find them again. Must have been the last update. Superb quality there.
it always starts playing bollywood even if I ask to play instrumental. I can't even play anything from my phone and listen on echo dot. At least put a search option in the alexa app so that the desired song can be searched and played when the AI is unable to play the exact song as per the input keywords.
Alexa is not able to search songs properly even though these songs are available in linked skills. It tries what ever others it finds, it's better if confirms before playing.
This app used to be great. I assume because now everyone has an Alexa that there are more people which probably counts for the bugginess but it's getting almost unbearable. For instance on the Alexa skill page you can't scroll down when you go into the categories. Most the time when you click a certain Alexa to play music it'll go to a different one so I end up having to say it out loud with the name because I can't just click in the app
it works for the most part, but the list function is objectively terrible. it crashes pretty often, takes 10-15 seconds to load most of the time, and anytime there's a weak cell signal (like in any store where you're checking things off) it either won't open at all or just freezes up.
It's OK, for the most part, but everytime my leccy trips, or my WiFi goes off of its own accord, the app often will not reconnect back to WiFi once my WiFi kicks in again, I often get a message saying no Internet connection even though my WiFi is back up and running and every other app I have is already back in connection with my WiFi, longish review I know, but it is what it is, that's the only problem I have with the app so far
Alexa has been efficient. Alex will sometimes request certain tools she provides too and makes suggestions for healthier and happier living. These offers are usually randomized. With life being very busy sometimes, I think this is a good feature.
Very frustrated! I am continuously getting a message that the Amazon Alexa app is not working even when I'm not even trying to get in it. I've sent multiple messages to no avail! I wanted to look aty shopping list which I normally use when I go shopping. I have removed the app and now I'm going to try to reinstall it. Hopefully this will help my problem. Only I've lost my shopping list!
Echo auto has serious issues with android 12.1 Device setup works fine but once you disconnect once you will never be able to pair to the echo auto again unless you reset it which is a hassle every time you get in the car. This was tested on 3 different devices from different manufacturers all running Android 12.1, before the 12.1 update all these devices worked fine. Also it is so slow for controlling the smart home. Takes ages to load so Google is the default now for any of the hue bulbs.
I really like the app. only thing I dislike is, they need to work on the voice recognition because when the Buick commercial comes on advertising its new Alexa feature. my portal always responds to it throughoutthe commercial until it realizes its not my voice. other than that I like it
Pretty good. A bit too simplistic on the smart home routines, and can be really frustrating from time to time, but overall I would recommend it.
I've had an Alexa since the very beginning. By this time we should be able to search for and select the podcasts we want to play, without having to jump through hoops only to have the darn thing say "not able at this time try again later." Alexa should be able to find "iHeart Radio Podcast Number 87 Rick Johnson MD." Google can I want to throw every single Alexa I have (literally one in every room in my house) out the window and find some other service that actually is useful. So frustrated.
This app worked well but lately it's been a frustrating experience to use. Whether I've been trying to connect to my Echo Auto or Echo devices throughout my home the experience has not been as smoothly as it once was. This problem needs to be fixed ASAP. There are too many other options to be frustrated.
I'm not sure what happened but this app is acting odd. I loved how I could call my phone using this app. Now it doesn't work. I've tried everything. I've even deleted and reinstalled the app several times and it doesn't work. I'm not happy 😕 it says contact not available 😒
The app works ok for me, however it only gets 2 stars from my (household) because my wife can no longer set or manage alarms and timers on ALL 12 of our echo devices through the app. This is a serious limitation of the household features. 5/10/22 - UPDATE - new feature added recently. APP crashes absolutely EVERY time you scroll to the bottom of your shopping list. This app is slowly becoming useless bloatware. Garbage...
Notification settings don't work, most notifications have issues that compromise their usefulness (e.g. package delivered notifications arrive hours later than notifications via Amazon shopping app or email), and ads for Amazon products have been getting inserted into the notification stream more aggressively as time goes on. App is intentionally obtuse - notifications are broken out into a dozen categories with no disable all. I regret investing in echo more and more, it's an ad hose.
This app would get 5 stars if I was able to link my iheart radio app to it. I've been having this issue for over 6 months and after countless updates nothing was done. It sucks cause I work from home and would like to have a variety of radio stations while working. Very disappointed
Can't live without this! Wonderful genius experience. Only two issues, the new male voice speaks way too quickly, he barely pauses between words and sentences. Second issue, I have no access to the Ziggy wake word
This app used to work extremely well, and communicate with my Alexa products without issue. As time goes by, I've noticed it's unresponsive at times. It doesn't respond to the on/off switch for my smart plug all the time. Its also very buggy when trying to sync photos to my echo show. I used to be able to pair my roomba with my Alexa using this app, but now it can't even find my roomba. The worst is the background usage and what it does to my phone battery though. Also force closes all the time
Application interface is worst : 1. While connecting echo in Setup mode, Even though Alexa is connected to phone's Bluetooth/WiFi also echo says device is connected, but App saya something went wrong, then it directly throws you out of page and App doesn't show already connected devices it asks for searching devices again. Then it is not possible to search device which is already connected. It is simply UI bug, poor UX, poor UI architecture. "Setup mode is not required, it's making it complex"
recent updates have literally hobbled this app. now regardless the device, all running Android 12, app takes around 5 seconds to respond to any action. clearing cache, even uninstalling and reinstalling app makes no difference. all thanks to the update a few weeks back.
bought to help with ADHD and mental health yet the frustration of it being unable to do ANYTHING I want it has actually added to the issues Can't play Spotify or BBC Sounds on more than one device despite all the multi-room ads Stops and starts at random Headspace app glitchy AF Ask how to do anything - the answer is a variance on 'I have no idea' Doesn't even learn when the same error is made repeatedly All wrapped up with an annoying patronising voice Ignore anything Amazon says - Alexa sucks
Unstable - deleting. Crashes multiple times a day. Today it drained my batter (new Samsung) from 100% to 15% within 4 hours as reported in the settings battery usage. It was the only app running in the background.
Please improve regression testing and transparency. It's hard enough to know when devices are in need of restart or reset, and the need to delete and re-create routines that have been working perfectly is ridiculous. The mysterious changes that appear to happen in the background without warning or disclosure are unacceptable. Regression testing for SO MANY possible combinations is extremely difficult...but that's what you signed up for when you created this beast and what we pay for.
Alexa app works well most of the time but occasionally it just stops recognizing devices (lights). No power failures or anything of the sort, it just seems to drop the device, though it is usually quite easy to re-pair the device to the network. All in all, I am happy with the Alexa app and I use it all the time for making grocery lists.
About two weeks ago the app started crashing. Now, it's happening constantly, making the app practically useless. Can't even use the lists feature for shopping, as five seconds after launch, it shuts down. Very disappointing. The app used to useful and function consistently & without issues.
Alexa frequently struggles with understanding voice commands, even when they are clearly spoken. Optimistic that this may improve someday -- we'll see. Actually, I'm amazed that it works as well as it does given it is nascent technology. Keep working on it...
Echo show is very annoying. Why can't you just have a clock display? Every few minutes keeps displaying message about sticky notes. I am not interested in this, its just annoying and there is no way to stop the message. Please disable these silly messages. All I want is a display of a clock, I know how to work the device!
sometimes the echo dot doesn't work linking Spotify or right now not even letting me change the network. And even when I try to solve the issue, it's so messy and unorganized. I'll put it this way, guidance how to fix your Alexa, is better than the guidance in the Alexa app.
this purchase is a no-brainer. I never realized how much I enjoy Amazon Alexa. after all, it's Amazon. returns are possible, not probable though. I now get to enjoy all my favorite radio programs, without missing a beat. thanks Amazon for this great product.
it is a very good app. I use it consistently. I believe the interface could be a bit better since at times it can be glitchy. that being said, it is a very useful app to consolidate the operation of devices what you want to be an automated home.
I haven't been able to get Alexa back into set up mode now for a year since we moved and changed wifi. She is great for aux chord speaker but basically has become useless otherwise. What a disappointment 😥
App is not user friendly. It is difficult to understand. Manual provided in the box is not sufficient to understand. Available videos are looks like incomplete.
I have ADHD and find Alexa really useful for setting regular and one off reminders, and adding to my shopping and to do lists. My young son loves some of the fun skills, listening to stories on Audible and being able to use the intercom function. We all love being able to play music and listen to the radio. Alexa can be a bit unreliable and I find the app can be a bit temperamental at times, when trying to adjust a reminder, but otherwise we find it really useful.
Keeps crashing on my phone. Did a force stop and even restarted my phone but no matter what I do it spams a message that it randomly keeps crashing. May Uninstall soon if it doesn't get better soon because I can't even use my phone with no interruption from it
Lots of glitches and bugs. Can't control volume on individual devices. Basic functions like start, stop and rewind don't work most of the time.
Starts recording when you are taking a call, automatically activates and stops after call recording, not very friendly. Will appreciate if there is a way to restrict Alexa from recording voice calls and just take commands, on which there is nothing smarter than this. Please provide a little privacy until I had to uninstall it .
This app used to work fairly well. However, as time goes on, it seems to just get worse and worse. It is super slow and buggy. I use it primarily for playing music. Multi room music is consistently getting worse and many of the TuneIn stations no longer work with Alexa, even though I can play the same stations on the TuneIn app with no problem. Amazon Music is also not working great with Alexa anymore.. Very frustrating!
Confusing. It takes forever and a trip to Google to add a smart plug to an existing routine. That should right there but its not. Upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S22Plus and now the shopping list causes the app to crash. Thought it was the phone but then my wife's Alexa app started crashing when using the shopping list. Must have been an update. No way to go back to an earlier version.
this app is horrible. it doesn't seem to enable me to link my Alexa device to my Spotify account. You would think at some point it would ask me for my Spotify account's username and password, but it never does, so zI remain unconnected. probably a ploy to get me to just cancel my Spotify account and buy Amazon's music streaming service - whatever it's called.
Can't even open the app every single time you do it keeps saying Amazon Alexa isn't responding. close app or wait and even if you do go into the app it lags so bad that it takes 5 to 10 seconds for whatever you clicked on to pop up and load if they fix the lagging issue in this app I would more than happy to use it but the only time I actually use the app is if I need to connect my devices to the internet
Great experience. I've used Alexa for a long time and always liked it but wasn't truly impressed until I helped set it up for my blind neighbor. I am amazed how well a blind person can do and figure out on their own once the very basics are set up like connecting the wifi and echo devices. I would recommend this to friends and family for sure. I love Alexa controlling my TV, music, lights and such.
The app can be slow and shows no option to skip song fairly often. It's becoming annoying as hell. I don't ever notice changes in updates... plenty of people are complaining yet nothing gets fixed. What's the point?
the Amazon Alexa app is awesome. I have a lamp that is in a corner and hard to access. with the app I don't have to struggle to turn it on and off. I can find out the weather, set cooking timers, find out where my packages are and lots more.
I have a first gen echo that I keep trying to connect and no matter what I do it won't connect to the internet. Ive tried everything it says to try online but during setup it just goes purple and says it couldn't connect to the internet. I've tried putting it next to the router and nothing
I prefer to say Alexa than OK blah blah blah. I get misses with Jill, but Alexa always gets it right. Works pretty well with SmartThings... Tip; Don't rename stuff after you link a service, better to pick the right name from the start and leave it default after that.
5/28/22 UPDATE: My morning routine won't play my music. When asked to play any music, it just keeps skipping after a few seconds, from one song to the next with no sound. It has sound, just not for the music. Ugh! So frustrating!! App crashes all the time and tonight, decided to flash my light on and off about 5 times. I think it was using a hunch and malfunctioned. Not sure though...hope it's not got a bug or something.
This app is now complete garbage. I have an Echo Auto and the app will shut down so the echo auto will stop playing after a number of minutes. In app settings battery usage is unrestricted so it must be a bug. If I bypass the Echo Auto and connect my phone straight to my car stereo the app still force closes. Honestly, what a load of trash this is.
NOT SELECTED LANGUAGE Currently though my app is set to English any time I go to help section or to link spotify or really do anything besides set an alarm a language DEFINITELY not in English (I believe maybe Japanese) is displayed so I can't even use the Help and Feedback button Also this app used to never give me any issues so I don't have a clue what happened
Great concept. Fails in execution. Last update improved rresponsiveness. Now,, if only I can read the Asian glyphs the app is now producing,, even though I've clearly selected US English as my default locale. This app could be so much more user friendly. Poorly laid out. 90 MB of nearly useless code.
The ugly drab colors of the app make the design look really outdated. The look of it makes me want to use the app as little as possible. Edit: This app continues to get worse. Now force closes constantly and showed up as a persistent notification I had to disable out of the blue. Ready to delete it and switch to Google Home completely.
It had one job, detect the Apple Music app it was linked too and play music. Only reason I downloaded it. Both apps showed they were linked in their settings, but Alexa says my phone does not support Apple Music 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
In general, the Alexa app works really well. Lately, it's been giving me a notification that "Alexa is listening" even when I haven't opened the app. Alexa is not set as my default assistant so this should 't be happening. I may have to delete it and start again.
Super slow! No matter which phone you use.. I hoped this last update would improve it but it did not. Very disappointed. Better to keep it simple and fast than complicate and super slow 🐌
App suddenly starts repeatedly crashing. Super annoying when I'm just trying to use my phone and Alexa keeps stopping everything I'm doing to tell me it crashed over and over again.
Keeps connecting to auto even when it's powered off! Highly frustrating to be mid sentence & realize the other party can't hear you bc it's connected to echo auto which is powered off. Ready to cancel
Frustrating that the Home Page can't be customized. App functions well, so no complaints there. Just wish I could open it, and see all my lists and notes on the Home Page rather than have to open lists and notes... may sound trivial but being able to customize an app such as this should be an option.... just seems so basic.
This app keeps causing my phone to malfunction. The Auto Mode seems to be the culprit. I've Uninstalled the app in hopes of fixing the problem but it persists. As soon as I'm in my car (I've programmed auto mode) I can't make phone calls and sometimes the app crashes my car. It's hard to use my phone when Auto Drive keeps popping up every second. Please fix it. Fix it NOW! I have so many things connected to this app that I can't get rid if it.
Every time I scroll to the bottom of my shopping list, the app disappears from the screen and displays the home screen. App is still running in background. Also, spotty garbled audio connection to echo auto since new phone S22 Ultra. Must unplug and reconnect to fix.
Its horrible at voice recognition and the device assistant on the phone immediately stops before i can even say a word. Contacting customer service is pointless. Since this app isnt a money maker for them like amazon shopping they dont bother keeping it running as smooth. Amazon doesnt care about its customers AT ALL, THEY DONT TAKE FEEDBACK ON ISSUES
I've had to lower my review of this app for the reason many others have. It's useless if it crashes halfway through attempting to use it. Every time I look at my shopping list, it closes. Uninstalling and re-installing does not fix the problem.
It consistently misunderstands commands. ex: "Alexa, I am hot." programmed to reduce the temperature on the thermostat ecobee+ but instead, it gives me a compliment. ex: I am sure you are beautiful. "Alexa, turn on the light and instead it gives me the time AND if it gets the command correct then I have to endure a preamble of more things it can do ex: by the way did you know I can alert you tell you a joke or play music for you? My advise, get Google home instead and save your sanity.
A great tool that is always improving. The more you use it the more uses come to mind...it is always improving.....I am amazed as to how quickly this app adds features and improves...WOW. The new skills list is almost endless...keeps getting better. Reminders is the one I am now trying...sets them easily for anything you want...a must use skill for sure. UPDATE...now that I have used it for over 2 years, my review from 3 to 5 🌟 ...they constantly add features and make improvements;thanks Alexa
Used to love the app. Now it is having a lot of trouble connecting to my smart devices like lights, plugs, etc... and doesn't complete the correct routine when asked.
Can't do anything on the app to customize or set up my echo or echo show because it constantly closes out on me in the middle of setting u. Highly frustrating. Or tells me my account isn linked up even though I've set it up multiple times.
can someone please make a good grocery and home inventory manager? Connects with home spreadsheets and possibly quick books so you can know what you have existing and what you need to buy and what your budget is altogether? Connected shopping with Amazon and Walmart for food and items. reminders when things expire or need replaced and possibly how long you stored food in the refrigerator. also a program that competes with speechify better.
Too many annoying problems to list. I spend way too much time managing home devices via this and several 3rd party apps. Why? Devices being forgotten. Or weirdly moved. Then the inability to parse actual compound sentences. Or how it just won't STF up sometimes... Or if you're misunderstood suddenly every light in the house turns on. Without even verifying first, which Alexa otherwise does lot. And won't shut up if you don't reply. ugh. Honestly, The Clapper was more reliable
Keeps connecting then disconnecting to auto mode and I'm not even Bluetooth connected to my car. In fact, I have removed/unpaired my car just bc of this reason. I've even turned off my power to audio and made sure not to be connect via cable. Yet the connecting disconnecting is consistent and actually counter productive to being safe when in my car. This is really a horrible and dangerous experience.
I like how the routines have more options to start than Google home, but there are other limitations (as of last check) such as custom commands being limited to 1 per routine that is a hindrance. There is also some reliability issues on talking to devices, which is the same with Google home, so I'm not sure if it is the devices or if it is Alexa/Google. It is intermittent so hard to tell. Also don't like that it is hard to separate Ring homes (mine and one I'm a shared user to).
It was great up until recently. The alarm on the device as well as on the app doesn't always make sound. It will say that the alarm is going off, and the sound will be on all the way, but won't make a sound. Was using it as our alarm clock on the app and device for (just incase the device one doesn't go off), and even the one on the app does the same thing, so we now know it isn't the device, but instead it's the app
My internet modem went out and of course this app is totally useless with trying to reconnect this device. It took me two hours the last time. It's time to throw this echo device where it belongs with this app and that's in the trash.
I've had to modify the rating recently...see below. Added an Amazon Smart Thermostat to my home and when I try to work with the schedule in the Android version of the Alexa app the app crashes. This is only a problem on my Android phone. When I use the IOS version on my iPad it's fine. It's been months, and I still cannot view or edit the thermostat schedule in the Android app. Another star lost. Disappointment in an app will lose it stars and being pleasantly surprised will earn added stars.
I listen to Audible primarily through Alexa. I used to open Alexa, press audible, and designate where it would play. Not anymore, I have to touch the play button twice. I have an Ultra 22. This app would get more stars, but the changes to the homepage are continuous and without any real improvement, only more "Things to Try." Meh! It could be great.
This app needs a total revamp, more than half the stuff I used to use echo for have stopped working, it's basically like the other electronics just don't exist anymore to it, every time I try to enable a new skill it just gets reset and goes back the home page of the skills, and nothings changed. I used to use it to control my LED lights, but now they just don't connect. If you bought and echo and are now reading this, I hope you kept your receipt.
The app is quirky. Often nonresponsive or extremely slow to respond. For example, when pulling up the shopping list, it stalls. And when trying to delete or add items, it often stalls for what seems like a minute. AD- HOW DOES THIS APP GET A 4+ RATING WHEN ALMOST EVERY REVIEW I SEE IS BELOW 4???
Very good, although for some reason my Alexa has started asking me what skill I want to use when verbally operating my TV instead of just doing it with no reaction, which is a huge pain in the @R$€, such as "Alexa, pause TV" "I can do that with ......skill or .......skill, which would you like to use?" The app on my phone is ok but quite slow. It takes 5/6 seconds to operate after you click on anything. I dont have that many phone apps so it is not a busy phone?
The navigation on this app is definitely clunky and not at all intuitive. That I could deal with since I don't use it much, but after this latest update, it's for some reason running and crashing in the background when I don't have it open. Hope this gets fixed quickly.
Finding a music of choice with voice is a tedious task, needs a lot of improvement and the same set of playlist need to change as well. The app could have an option to search music and then it'll play from one of the linked services.
Can't even do the things mentioned in app. Suddenly telling you time weather without even asking. Routines section is the worst. Can't set up a song as per your likings though it is already available on Spotify ganna etc.
Great device, too bad some options are not available depending on the country you're in. A tad difficult to set up, though, if you're not versed in technology at all. Still, plenty of options.
Absolutely horrible experience. Won't connect to my Xbox or my Samsung QLED tv. I've tried YouTube, faq, reddit, and source I could think of and nothing. I also purchased a Amazon dot and it won't allow voice control for my tv because Samsung isn't in list of combinable devices.
Having issues with the app crashing. Tried to send a message to the developer contact email that is listed and got a message back that they are not accepting emails at that address. So how do I fix this issue if I can't contact anyone? And why give contact information if the email address is not able to accept emails? Frustrating! 🤔
I love my Echo speaker but the app is horrible. Extremely slow and sluggish and sometimes certain parts of the app don't load up as if you have a bad Internet connection even tho other apps perform perfectly... Setting up can be hit and miss sometimes as the app occasionally hangs and your just waiting endlessly... Philips Hue lights work great with an Echo speaker but the app randomly duplicates each light so it doesn't work until I delete the duplicate.
I like all of the features, it just takes some time to set everything up. Also, the alarm hasn't been going off if I set it with the app. If I use the Alexa to set an alarm, they go off without fail.
Unable to disable weather alerts, despite trying everything I can find online. When I try selecting the item from Notifications > Weather, the moment I touch the alert, it sends me to Reminders. It is infuriating. I want to delete warning for a city I no longer live in but can't!! Horrible UI/UX.
Pretty much useless. The interface is clunky and confusing and totally user-unfriendly. If you create a routine to turn something on and off, the off time overwrites the on time so your device never actually turns on. Or if it does, it immediately turns off! It's also impossible to create more than one routine per device. Everything has to be done manually so the app is pretty much pointless.
Very good. Easy to take central control of different makes of smart devices. Update May 2022:- the latest update completely trashed the app on my 2 older amazon tablets, running fire os 5. It now just crashes and won't open at all. However, the app seems to still work on a newer amazon tablet running fire os 7. Amazon should tell it's users if the new version will only work on os 7.
if you want slow grade torture, try and setting up Alexa with Philips Hue's lights. once I finally set it up after hours and hours, I've decided I'm never going to add anything, because it's just too complicated, too many interrelated Parts which no ordinary person would be able to follow, just a mess.
There should be an Android widget to enable single click on/off switches for devices/device groups. I shouldn't have to tap into the app, then into Devices, then turn something on/off. I won't be buying any more Amazon/Alexa devices - not a user friendly. Seems like they want to force you to use the app or voice controls. That doesn't meet everyone's needs.
so annoying, half the time she doesn't answer the question properly. she makes a totally unrelated statement. my shopping list used to have categories, example meat, dairy, vegetables. just like I sort my own list. this feature has disappeared 2 years ago!
Suddenly my Amazon Alexa App keyboard is double and triple typing letters and making up words. I found nothing in the app settings to help with this problem. The phone keyboard works fine in all other apps. May I please get some help with this problem ASAP.
App started crashing after latest update. There are so many web forums dedicated to this issue that it's impossible for Amazon not to know about it - and yet it's still not fixed. Best fix option: Uninstall / reinstall and cross your fingers. Very poor service. Will update rating once issue is resolved.
Alexa has so much untapped potential that could separate it from its competitors. Maybe incremental improvements will eventually get there, but someone needs to kick it in gear before it's left behind.
started out great for the 1st year then started to malfunction, ALL DAY. She shouts out reminders that you deleted, any reminder that she tells you, never leaves the screen, so can't see the clock and you have to manually clear it. the alarm function goes off on its own, without you even setting it. I have to constantly unplug it and let it sit for about 10 minutes. That seems to help and then she goes right back into malfunctioning. right now I'm very disappointed with my Alexa echo.
Originally this app was nice to use. As time goes on, its gets slower and slower and slower. The app developers need to "TEST" the app not on WiFi but a slow 4G network. Then they will see just how utterly slow it is. Bring up my grocery list at the store is painfully slow, it might as well screenshot my list and look at that instead of the app. Updated 5/17/22
Initially 4 star but now 2 star. The experience worse by the day and the app is ultra-slow regardless of device and data broadband. Everything takes minutes to load. This is so sad because the software has so many good features but it just takes forever to view and set them up. Even the ECHO dots are becoming slow to respond. Can the developers fix this????
There's too much jammed into too little space. I think they need to walk back a few steps; feels as if they are doing too much and cramming things in, a lot being silly/unnecessary. Please focus on things that actually matter and improve them, instead of spreading thin and making it worse. Navigation and interface should be much better for a top of the line tech service. Also, what's the point of voice recog if other people can still command it? Hire me so I can improve it! Great ideas here!
I like Alexa, but updates are not happening, and network connectivity is no longer reliable. This should be easier. I had to reinstall to get the latest app on my Android phone. A nightmare, lost passwords, you would think a configuration file would be something I had the option to backup. Shame on Amazon help quality seems to be going down hill since Jeff left. I am regretting committing to Amazon's smart home Alexa technology. What a financial loss it will be to change to someone else.
Alexa is like that friend who was great and then became an Amway salesman, and became a ghastly irritatant. Amazon now uses Alexa to constantly 'pitch' new add-ons. And, its ability to recognize requests has become inconsistent. Alexa in 2022 is very tedious and frustrating compared to the sleek voice activated do-all device from six years ago. FYI - we own a total of six, the best ones are the old Taps, which are no longer take updates.
In terms of responsiveness, this is the slowest app I've ever used. Been through a number of updates and no matter how often, it's still takes several minutes for it to respond when you click on something. If I didn't have to use it for setting devices up, I wouldn't. There are several good features which are rendered useless by this as well. App needs a serious work over.
Alexa is very capable and understands well when we talk to her (although I think Cortana understood and responded even better, and with more sense of humor), but the phone screen capabilities on the App are very bad. The App is very laggy when it comes to doing things like adding reminders or changing settings using touch gestures on the phone screen, and sometimes it is easier or more convenient to do than talking.
So frustrating using this app. I have a couple of echo dots and some light devices. The app hangs and lags. Things say they don't connect, then do. It's virtually impossible changing settings like wifi network. I almost want to throw all my Amazon devices in the trash it's so frustrating.
The layout of this app is very convoluted. The settings that you want are very hard to find and customization is very tedious. In typical Amazon style they spent most of their time on advertising and very little time thinking about customization and setup.
I get a red line when I say Alexa. It asks me to get in touch with Customer Service. I have been with the Customer Service - four different people over 10 hours today. I have reset the device at least 4 times since yesterday. Still the same issue. No resolution... The last person asks me to take it up with Amazon.in. And I'm like, aren't you all Amazon end of the day?? I am connecting to the customer service through the app. There is no option to choose the country for support! Seriously!
The experience isvery uneven with the app, and despite having some nice advanced featues when you dig in, some simple things are hard to achieve. Has compatibility with most but not all services and integration for those that are supported isnot always smooth
Junk! This app has so many bugs and glitches. Unresponsive, unreliable, just aggravating all together! Multi room music is a joke! Smart home device control is mediocre at best. Come on Amazon! Get your act together and concentrate more on this app! My home is on the Alexa smart home platform. I have more devices and audio controlling than most people. I'm borderline switching to Google home! So fed up with this not working and forget seamless integration with Amazon music.. canceling that too..
Lot of fixes needed. For starters, it'd be nice if it had the basic functionality to customize the home screen beyond deleting things and having new random things pop up in their place. Stop making insane recommendations; I do not need to try "Alexa, tell me a joke." Second, and this is more about the thermostat programming within the app, the options are more limited than my old Honeywell. Lastly, the music player randomly disappears so I have to close the app and re-open to see it. Buggy.
Huge and heavy app... better have an octacore device to run this app with any semblance of responsiveness. You can pull an espresso shot or two in the time it takes for this app to load. Same for switching between app screens. I refuse to replace my devices every 6 months just so I can run this app.
Would be great but unless you are single this is a pain to link with your household devices and smart items. Unless you share a log in you can either access all the routines etc or access your own account, not both, unless you duplicate everything, which is a pain as the app sometimes loses devices. As for playlists, you can't access them because they are on your partner's account not yours and Amazon won't let you share music accounts.
I like Alexa overall, but the Android app is really slow and clunky. When I scroll through my shopping list, it's like a wrestling match, the list jumps up or down on its own, as if it's being pulled by rubber bands, and half the screen is taken up by buttons and controls and an ad, there's barely room for the list. And now it says the new version will require Android 8. Not cool. I have Android 7 and my phone is not that old. I'll have to stop using Alexa, I guess.
I don't understand how Amazon consistently has the least agile or intuitive or functional apps. I use the echo at home to save my grocery list, but I have to wait 90-180 seconds for it to pull up the list when I need it. The interface is clumsy. Nothing is obvious. My kids says, "Alexa, wake me up at 7" before they go to bed. I just realized this creates a NEW alarm everytime. There are a hundred alarms waiting on this app now, and each has to be deleted individually. Ridiculous
Still awful!!! Slow, buggy, horrible!!! I wish I could take starts away from this app, to it sucks so much! 3rd review: it's just horrible lately. Can't communicate with other devices via drop in, doesn't always sync for alarms, and refused to connect to Amazon Music app. Such a disappointment!
For the past 4 years I've set alarm on this app rather than say it out loud to Alexa (my wife sleeps earlier than me some nights.) If it's past midnight and I set an alarm for 8 am, this app thinks I want this alarm for 2 days from now. Ridiculous. Amazon, nobody is trying to set an alarm for 31 hours from now. Typical dated UI, just like their video app. Guess they don't have enough money to improve user experience.
I'd rate the app higher, but it's so inconsistent. the windows don't launch properly. it's clunky to use. routines are nice when you're setting one up, but such a pain when you try to manage more than one. and my absolute biggest dislike is that there's no other way of managing your devices. can't even access through a computer. baffling.
It gets the job done, people complain about how poorly it is organized and how hard it is to do something, but you need to understand that the point of Alexa is to make commands with your voice. The app just exist for initial setup and to have a visual overview of the settings for when the voice commands are too confusing. For example checking the time of all your current set alarms and that kind of stuff that doing by voice could be annoying.
You have got the 'Sort by' facility arse about face. You have set it so I can sort my required items by A to Z, but the 'Completed' section (which is where I keep the list of things I usually buy) cannot be sorted. This implies that supermarkets offer their items in alphabetical order (which they don't), but then I need to search through a list of 50 or so items in my 'Completed' list to add something I want to buy to my current shopping list. I suppose I could just switch the lists uses around, but I think it would be better if you reprogrammed the app.
I am beyond ticked off. I cannot listen to music on any of my 4 alexas. It gaps 30 seconds every 3rd song, most of the time won't even respond. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and reset them a million times and it's still [email protected]
Get your sh* together Amazon. I'm clearly not the only person with this problem. I absolutely hate these bloody speakers. I'm just gonna switch to Google and garbage these failures.
Started off well but quickly became rubbish. And why when I close the app does it then refuse to swipe off the notification area? Really I gotta go in to settings and mess about opening storage and force stops? Set up is pretty hit and miss and your Amazon music doesn't unlock all features at 7:99 a month? Naah you wanna make me pay 16 quid. I tried the unlimited and performance wasn't much better and features well seemed pointless most of them. Disappointing experience overall
Not sure what broke lately but Alexa has stopped reacting correctly to standard commands like "remind me" "set alarm" "volume to X". Reminders are completely broken. I state "remind me to X at 3pm" She asks "what time should I remind you." I say "3pm" She then asks "what is the reminder for" I angrily repeat it and she says "i'm sorry I don't know that one" or adds my reminder text to a shopping list. She also is now hard of hearing (I have to shout when whisper worked before) Junk code.
Patchy. Buggy software. Some of my devices listed on the app suddenly duplicate in the app which makes the routines fail as they are pointed at a now non functioning device. Switch the routine to point at the duplicate and it works again. Amazon's advice... Disconnect every device in your house from the Alexa app and start again! No. This isn't my problem, it's Amazon's problem. Their software running on their servers. When it's working it's a marvel.
The app needs a lot of work. Hard to set up multiple devices. If it notices any internet changes, the app is useless, the devices will work on their own even without the apps organization skills. The app has problems that should've been worked out a long time ago.
The Alexa app is frequently updated with smart home system breaking changes or "features" that affect both third party product functionality (bulbs, plugs, etc.) as well as Amazon's own flagship products (latest Echo devices, latest Ring doorbells, etc.). Fixes for these developer-caused problems can take weeks, months, years or never happen at all. Their testing before releasing updates and/or features has to be virtually non-existent. Prepare to be frustrated often. Still better than Google.
The Alexa App is so bad. It's so slow because of wat too many features that it cannot support. One of the most annoying thing is trying to scroll through my favorites playlist, to see only 10 songs at a time instead of being able to scroll through my whole list. Trying to skip/change a song in the playlist constantly causes the app to freeze, glitch and repeat the same song. FIX THIS. You all should be BETTER than this. I genuinely have no desire to continue using the app.
App won't allow me to log in on my Pixel 6. Everything's updated. As soon as I enter the otp code, the app closes. When I open it again, it displays the login screen. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, multiple restarts. I tried this a couple times over the course of months and they still haven't fixed whatever bug is causing it. I'll be deleting it I guess... Again. Between this and my echo constantly trying to sell me things I might just go to Google home.
It's fine on a single device, but multiple devices, like Dots, Echos, etc. (think 'Everywhere' group) is awful lately. Sirius channels cut out, static, cracking noises, just plain stopping. Same with other channels, like OPB, Radio Paradise, etc. this also happens at a friend's house, and she has five devices on her group. I doubt it's the router, etc. Our Spectrum broadband is robust. Rebooting the router and cable modem don't help, either. Fooey!
They add features where they make money selling your info and do not give you a way to turn them off. For example, they just added "offers" to your shopping list where you scan an entire receipt and get credit for 1 item on it. They want to see everything you purchase. I've been on chat for an hour and no one knows how to turn off this feature.
This is a review for the app, not the Alexa itself. The app is just slow. Doesn't react. Crashes. Closes randomly even though I am using it. It's annoying. If you want to "quickly" set an alarm, it takes you at least five minutes to open the app, reopen it because it crashed, open the alarm window and set an alarm. It takes so long, it's quicker to do it by voice command. That should be fixed.
By default, Alexa devices bomb you with ads for additional apps and services and products. You can only turn off those notifications with this app, not the web page. This app tries to take over your phone while driving, or listen in at other times to provide more Alexa services. It's a very intrusive experience. Settings to disable non-stop notifications are buried, but you can do it.
Been using the app for a long time with very issues. However I just bought and tried to install a new Amazon smart thermostat. I can see it in my devices and I can connect, but every time I go to options -> thermostat schedule the app crashes. This issue along with others is making me rethink this purchase
opens up a lot of customization and control but not always intuitive. Especially if you have multiples of specialty devices like Fire TV and Cube. Often the system was designed with the idea you'll only have one of these types of devices. Or, it seems that way.
The number of times I've told Alexa to set an alarm or timer, it confirms what I said, and then just doesn't do it have eclipsed the times where it has. I have difficulties using traditional alarms so being able to use my voice is great but these devices are so inconsistent and unreliable that I'm starting to convince myself that they're trying to sabotage me on purpose.
Although I love having the Alexa devices, they do very little to enhance my home. They get the answers to my questions right about 50% of the time and the drop-in on the devices absolutely sucks. You can't hear the other end when you drop in on the devices. I have tested it many different ways and you can't hear it from your phone. I could hear someone talk to my device when they dropped in but not from the app on the phone when dropping into the device and device settings don't work properly.
The synchronisation between the Alexa app and Amazon music is poor. The music quality is diluted, the playlists no longer resume from where they left off and the display is always delayed by one song. Playing music through this app ruins it. I would just use the music app for my echo auto if only it allowed voice texting or any other Alexa features.
Amazon needs to step up their smarthome features. Please allow us to make the device tab the default starting point, to turn off suggestions within the app that take up screen space, to use the same dashboard that you have on your Kindle devices, and the arrange our favorite devices on the dashboard. Google Home, while not perfect, is a much faster app with better organization than the Alexa app.
Amazon build this Alexa device and at first it worked fine. But now, as time passes, they are too involved in creating new options for the device to do while the basic function are constantly failing. Amazon should make sure that the things that enticed me to buy these boxes still function. Adding junk features that I don't want or need doesn't make me a satisfied consumer.
Your CONSTANT push notifications for "auto mode" combined with a bug that prevents the app from properly responding to "I'm a passenger" nearly resulted in a crash. Prior to this, I didn't have an issue with your app. I now HATE your ENTIRE company, all because of a constant and stupid push freaking notification. DO BETTER.
It does what it does. Thankfully, it's not necessary to use it all that often, but when you have to try to find something the UI is terrible. Also, it doesn't appear to be possible to write reviews for Alexa skills: tapping "write a review" from a skill's page just loads a blank page.
First off, this is a review of the app, not the AI service it interacts with. The service is quite good. The app is so-so and getting worse as Amazon follows Apple's habit of packing more and more functionality into a slower and slower app. It's bloated. It's slow. It's so slow that sections time out frequently. It's so unnerving, I took another star away while writing this.
SOLUTION: Had it for several years, apparently an update created problems, biggest was Drop In failure. Updated, uninstalled and installed again, no improvement. Uninstalled and downloaded straight from Amazon, now works! Will NOT use google play to update again. Very common for apps gotten here. Auto updates TURNED OFF! I prefer to pick and choose my updates, have lost the use of many apps from here in the past. Like I always say: UPDATES are not always UPGRADES!
Great for brief BBC news, weather, alarm, reminders, etc, but a disappointing addition to Amazon Music, which crashes 30s into a song or an album. The ability to play on multiple Alexa speakers also fails...even with Audible (Amazon). Its comes as no surprise that these products can be found in secondhand shops like CEX. Either Amazon need to drop the product altogether or put some heavy investment in its technology, making it more fluid in its response and delivery.
HUGE WASTE OF TIME. I have a brand new S22 and the app keeps crashing. When it does work it is slow. When using video call you are locked into portrait mode which is a waste of screen space if using an Echo device. Overall I expect more from Amazon in support of a platform that has been around for long enough to...well...actually be smart for the user. Do not waste your time. Return your Amazon device and look for a more reliable smart home device.
It's amazing how awful this app and whole device still is. Change something in a group get a blue bar across the top of the app that prevents you from navigating for way too long. Have more than one device starting with the same words, you are utterly screwed because Alexa stops listening after two words and will always ignore anything after no matter how many different routines you try to make to force it to respond to the exact phrase you say.
Alexa is so far from AI it's ridiculous. It can't even handle the simplest request. For example, I got a National Weather notification today but it was noisy & I didn't hear it so I said, "Alexa, repeat last notification." She said (and I hesitate to call it "she" because it's an insult to women, but it's a female voice) but she said, "Sorry, I don't know that one." I rephrased & got the same answer... twice. Alexa is programmed for extremely basic interactions - that's it. Borderline useless.
This app is pretty good. U just wish it was possible to stop an alarm by going to the app. Or snoozing by tapping the action button on Alexa twice and stopping the alarm by tapping it once. I don't like having to shout ALEXA! across the room, or at least make it so that Alexa is more receptive to the wake word even during an alarm. All issues aside, connectivity is very good and rarely disconnects for me.
We have several of these and use them for alarm clocks, reading books, and so much more. This app makes it easy to control all the smart devices AND makes recommendations for holidays. When a holiday is coming up, it will ask if we need our alarms for tomorrow because of the holiday. With the app, I can also "drop in" on any of my devices which acts like a phone call from my phone to that particular Dot/Alexa. Works the same for outgoing calls from the Dot to a phone. Super useful app, thanks!
Works well with everything except the smart camera. I can use the drop in feature, but when I attempt to use the smart camera feature on either of my show 5s, it says smart camera not working. I would use the drop in feature but I like to check in on my kids when they are supposed to be sleeping and don't want to wake them. Wife and I each have S22 Ultra and both phones have the same issue.
I can't do things I want to like delete old alarms. I have set my alarms to default my liked songs on Spotify on both the app and my device and the device will only play a generic alarm sound. Have to do many different functions by logging in online and not using the app. Seems to me the app needs a bunch of work to function properly across all the offered devices.
really annoying how loop mode, or putting a song on repeat, is completely hit and miss. used to be able to do it from the app, but now I have to tell the echo to do it. it doesn't work anymore and the app is getting worse every day. I miss being able to use the app so I don't have to speak to the echo, but a lot of that functionality has been removed.
I used to like my Dots. I got them specifically to play songs I liked and to help with reminders. Over the last year they've become a LOT less likeable. We are over "mm-hmm-hm" ~ what we've started saying in our house to keep from accidentally activating she-who-must-not-be-named. She now plays whatever she pleases instead of what we request and she talks way too much - always advertising! We've become painfully aware of how her name permeates our lives...via shows, movies, ads, and more!
Terrible and buggy mess of an app. The widgets almost never work, the voice commands NEVER work right and you have to find some other workaround (tasker is great for automating this) Horribly made and barely functional. It is especially bad because it is required to work with any amazon device. Fix your god damn app already. Almost nothing is functional on any phone I use. I use amazon for a lot for a lot of things, but this app along with the Amazon Music app are unacceptable.
A load of rubbish, the skills have stopped working even though it has been fine for over 2 years. My TV can no longer be controlled, the Alexa devices tell me it is not enabled the app says it is. Wish I never invested in the Alexa system as everything is temperamental and no help what so ever available from Amazon. Disappointed and annoyed user. I woul have given it zero stars if I could.
Works fine for most things, but shows a lackluster performance for things like alarms and reminders: the have the ability to make the notifications use special sounds, but the app doesn't actually speak the alarms and notifications, making it no better than the built-in alarms and timers that come with your phone. If this one thing were changed, i would give it a full five stars: a reminder works better when you don't need to be looking at a screen to know what it is.
Ready to Drive Auto Mode keeps trying to turn on. I can't even open the settings in the app because it thinks I'm driving. I check the "I'm a passenger" button and within 2 seconds it thinks I'm driving again and kicks me out of settings. I don't even have this app synced with my car! I am constantly having to Force Stop the Alexa app. I have several Amazon devices in my home so this frustrating because I finally had to uninstall the app to stop the incessant notifications.
Id give it 5 stars if it was slightly more customizable. I'd like to set reminders for certain days of the week instead of just weekly, daily, ect. The custom option is way too limited and this is a simple fix. If Alexa and Google's features were only combined, we'd have a very helpful product. PLEASE, CONSIDER THIS CHANGE. 😬
Upon setting up application with devices, it moves so slow to the point of crashing itself. It often takes 10+ minutes to load a single screen regardless of which device I use. The connectivity of devices to the system is aweful; it's laggy, very glitchy, the controlling device often loses response to the system. This entire platform is very poorly engineered and maintained!
I would give this app a perfect rating, except when I have it installed on my phone (Moto G6 - Stylus - 2019 model) anytime I press my home key, the app opens the listening dialogue and I am unable to disable this feature. It annoys the heck out of me, and I ultimately have to unistall the app to keep my phone from constantly opening Alexa. Fix that, and I'd keep it on my phone. Otherwise, I'll only download and use when needed.
This app ranges from unbelievably slow to just usable. The UI is very busy and you have to really dig around to find some functions/settings. It's nice to be able to control and communicate with my various Alexa products, but even this is flawed. For one, you have to be connected to the internet. This is reasonable for the Echo Dot and Fire TV, but not for the Echo Buds. I can't turn off noise cancellation or adjust the EQ for my bluetooth headphones without internet. That's just dumb.
This thing is aggravating, it doesn't always do what it's supposed to, it randomly listens in without the wake word, the forecasts are inaccurate and its limited to what it knows and can do. also, if you don't pay for the music, it plays "similar" music.
can't work out how to connect the dot via Bluetooth, cant work out how to set up to play Spotify, keeps defaulting to Amazon music and wanting me to pay $25 a month. App is hopeless, can't find instructions. no useful assistance on the Amazon website. instructikns dont match the app functions. Gonna sell my Amazon dots as it is all too hard !
So tired of every device of becoming "unresponsive." Everything works great until it doesn't. Just end up doing everything like you used to--get up and turn each and every thing on and off, high or low. Never understood what the hype was then got used to the convenience, now it's just a frustration having to troubleshoot constantly.
This app has been consistently declining in quality over time. It seems to less and less recognize what I asked it to do. I have a half dozen alarms in the app that won't delete (thankfully was able to shut them off) - cleared cache and reinstalled and such; no change - issue appears on other phones when I log in. I frequently ask for a reminder and it sets a reminder for a different day or time, or retuns unintelligible gibberish. Ask for lighrs in one room, but another set turns on.. Useless.
I have to reboot devices every few days it seems to process commands like pause to stop playing, play on group speakers, etc. If I change what alexa is i.e. playing to something else and then retry the command to pause etc. Then sometimes it works. Very inconsistent and often reboots temporarily fixes issues but that is all BShit to have to do. Hopefully this last release fixes things.
Everything works pretty good but I have to say, it seems that the older versions worked better. Over time the app seems to load slower than it used to. The interface is attractive but way to busy. With the last several updates I've had problems displaying the last line of my lists when scrolling to the bottom. -OnePlus 9 Pro. Android 12.
Ugh, the previous update was working ok but now the latest update made it lose access to my Amazon smart plug! I can't re-add it, even with factory resetting it because Alexa still thinks it's in the system. I can't access it to delete it and reconnect. That's just the latest issue in a long history of difficulties with the system and device connections. I hope it gets resolved soon. My other, 3rd party plugs all work correctly.
When it works it's great, but it so slow. I have high speed internet, no issues running stuff. But when I open the app and try to make an announcement, it take almost 5 minutes to load the announcements, when it actually loads, then it only allows a small announcement to be made, requiring multiple announcements to be used. And 99% of the time, it will not load for more than one announcement.
Freezes and crashes when accessing the skills page. Update didn't help. Also, when I try to add a skill I just get told to download the Alexa app. Nice programming there. Guess I might as well send my Echo back. Edit: After using this app for a while and a few updates, it seems more stable. I would like to see it less counter intuitive on things like adding a tv (of all things, Samsung isn't on their list) and it needs to work better with some of the smart connections. Better than it was tho.
App would be great if it wasn't such a massive battery hog. The alexa app uses more battery than my display! I've set the app to optimized in the battery settings but the app constantly overrides my settings and puts it back to unrestricted. This is a major issue and it appears to affect a lot of other users. If it's not resolved soon, I will be forced to uninstall the app.
Changed my original review from 1 star to 3. I hate that Amazon does not respect peoples privacy. This is a good app, but I don't like it listening to me all the time. That is a violation of my privacy. They need to add a PRIVACY mode button on the devices and the app to easily push to tell it to STOP LISTENING TO ME until you toggle the button back on. The phone app for the Alexa devices is too hard to configure. I take my Alexa DOT to hotels with me, but they I have to reconfigure from scratch, and it seems to not stay connected to wifi's well. It is always dropping from my hotel wifi. It loses my settings when updates are pushed, when changing wifi, and it doesn't search the web well at all. Not enough FREE features. I hate that it is always trying to get me to BUY a monthly subscription for music and stuff. Stop trying to get me to spend even more money!!
Over all I'm pleased with my new/older Echo. I gave it 4 stars because of a difficult time getting it to recognize I'm speaking to it. Google has found ways to fix this on newer versions but I've been unable to find a way to get it to work. It's an Echo so that tells most people it uses the same commands, you have options to change audio, connect to Bluetooth and wi-fi no problem. It's compact, the asthestics go with most decors, and they are all reasonably priced. You've got to love Amazon!!!
Works great for home automation when it works. Unfortunately it just doesn't work well anymore. It's become more of a hassle trying to figure out why lights won't turn on or off when they should. I'm tired of deleting and remaking routines for them to work some times. I've finally given up and deleting the app and will just go back to flipping switches on and off.
Its a huge time saver, but it would be nice for Alexa to know the difference between different types of devices when using voice commend. When I say `Alexa turn off the living room LIGHTS" it should not ALSO turn off the Xbox just because they are in the same group. Also, it sucks that Alexa cannot process more than one command at a time. If I want to turn on the lights to a dim blue color, I have to invoke Alexa 3 different times to turn them on, then blue, then dim. Inefficient.
Finally fixed the color issue where you can't set a light to the color WHITE in routines. Now they've somehow managed to screw up the routines in general. Running a routine doesn't always work properly. Some lights will flash to the new setting and then revert to the old. Running the routine 8-10 times will eventually fix it but WTH? The lights are obviously being contacted by Alexa or they wouldn't flash so it's not the light or the app/skill. If this doesn't get fixed soon I'll move to Google
At best it's incomplete. It still refuses to persist many settings even though it acts like it accepts changes. At worst, it just beeps and flashes but doesn't do anything. Most of the time it doesn't recognize a name of a device, like an Echo. If I try making a call or dropping in on a device, it never connects. Many months ago it worked okay, but it has gotten worse.
Alexa is super duper helpful and has made many aspects of managing my day so much easier! only complaint is that I have my volume set moderate-high and still when my alarm goes off in the morning, it is super low, barely audible... Setting an alarm doesn't help much if you can't hear said alarm. I'm trying to find info to reset the entire device and see if that helps. Otherwise, I love my Alexa and plan on buying another device in the future!
This app has negatively impacted my phone's battery life. I use Echo Frames which does require a constant connection, so I understand it will drain some. Prior to the most recent update, I could expect ~15%-20% loss throughout the day. After the update, I lost 41% in less than a day to this app alone. That aside, the app does that it claims. It's a functional tool and I use it frequently. (Update March, 2022) Still draining. Functionality is even better, but still kills the phone quickly.
This app works poorly, it as if the developers are four people who have either never used the app and tested the function of the features or they don't care. The music functions are unreliable, device disappear and reappear, connect, don't connect, play and stop playing. I had high hopes, but this app too frustrating.
Everytime I am reading kindle through alexa it keeps going back to past pages or chapters. It's annoying having to skip every 5-10 minutes. No it's not my internet, this happens regardless of location on multiple devices. For a business that provides so many services, Amazon is taking too long to fix these issues.
If there was an app that does TOO MUCH, this is it. I like that it does a lot, but there are so many different things you may do that it becomes confusing to perform simple programs. Seems that programming one thing can affect another. I have lights that come on at random times and I'm not sure where that program came from, whether Alexa or that app the lights are from, because the lights can be controlled by both apps.
Alexa is getting worse with every update. With the latest update, the alarms don't work worth a darn. If you try and change it, the screen where the time is supposed to come up, it doesn't, so once it's set, you have to live with it because you can't even delete it . This really sucks. The developers really need to get their heads out of their rear and get this thing working right. Alexa is getting close and closer to getting permanently deleted, and the echo dots shown the garbage can
Need to build up some skills and blueprints I'm thinking. Voice Recognition and "search", plus category selections are all working nicely. Looking through all the menus and settings both in and out of the application and device is easy to breeze through and navigate. I'd imagine my "footprints" through the vast AWS is substantially more then I think it is; I'm looking forward to seeing how well she does with the standard "fetching", "predictions," and "recognitions."
I have a routine set to respond from a specific device, another device is where it will respond from w/o fail Recently when Spotify is playing on my echo device (doesn't matter which device they all do it) the music will skip as if it's a CD in a boombox and people are stomping. Infuriating. I also have smart lights and when I try to say things "kitchen lights 100%" it will only turn on kitchen light 1. tonight I said "kitchen lights 20%" and it only turned on kitchen light 2 (I have 4) at 20%.
it's OK I just started using it again. the only thing I don't like is having to have everything run from the cloud. if the internet is off then everything stops. I'm looking at Home seer now , but it's nice I can pick up any TV remote to turn on/off things. sometimes buttons are better, I would love to get an Alexa remote with 4 to 8 buttons or buttons on TV remote
Overall, I'm happy with the app and all of the features that it offers. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star experience is the fact that the app sometimes won't load my shopping list, or otherwise doesn't always seem to be fully optimized. I've used Alexa on multiple devices and my current phone is one of the current market flagships. Optimization is not something that an app on this scale should still be struggling with. However, Alexa is the best personal assistant out there.
Unless you are a tech wiz, this app can be confusing at times. Not only does it crash a lot but I was able to figure out some pretty cool features on it... like getting my Alexa to repeat things to me when I say a certain command or ask a certain question. However, you have to really know how to work this app and how to program it. It would be interesting to see how many people utilize this thing to it's fullest potential. Other than that... annoying that it randomly shuts you out.
The speaker is amazing, features are great, overall it's decent. The problem? the photos that it displays are really wonky. Google devices do a much better job at picking appealing photos and displaying them. With Alexa, you might wind up seeing 10 pictures of a couch and so on. Makes no sense at all. if you could connect with Google photos I would give this a five for sure.
An updated review. Battery issues seems to be way better however the interface non-clean, hodge podge look is still a thing... it looks so disorganized is still my biggest issue. I honestly only use it to troubleshoot setting on devices and sometimes adjust the volume of a device. I'm pretty tech savvy and having to drill down in the app to find simple settings is tedious. I wanted to get an echo for my mother inlaw for music/ communication uses but there is no way she can figure this app out.
When I open the app to access my lists, I have to click another tab then the first one to access them. I also wish that when we checked off things from our shopping list, it was still categorized under completed, so dairy, snacks, produce still had their own completed categories. I feel this would help when we again run out of that item, to restore in that category, rather than scroll through the whole uncategorized list. Just a suggestion :)
What a joke. Just bought a Fire HD8 Plus, for the express purpose of using it like an Echo, controlling smart plugs in the bedroom where the new $40 docking station is, and occasional social media access. After cost of tablet, dock, and compatible smart plugs ($60+), this garbage won't even open. It did once for a millisecond and then nothing. Borderline scam having this as a selling point for so many things that are of course sold by Amazon, and doesn't even function. 🖕Amazon.
I used to love this app but a few days ago, The "find my phone" feature stopped working. I've tried everything to reconnect it, following instructions from other users who had the same problem. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Find my phone feature is still not working and that is one of the features I used the most. Not happy!
Although all devices are connected to the same network, the system will not allow me to add three to a single group. I can select two of the three and then lose the option to select the third... Also, it is now telling me I cannot play Pandora after switching to one song on Spotify... It now seemingly cannot connect to my Pandora account although I had previously played the same playlist on Pandora right before that. 🤷🏻♀️
Poorly laid out app. Nothing is easily found or intuitive. Sometimes you can find things using voice commands, but that defeats the purpose of having a secondary means of accessing features. There are a few really annoying places where you search for something, and then you can't even scroll through the results. Good luck filtering 1000s of results. It'd be cool to change the theme to something darker since the stark whiteness of it makes me even madder when I'm struggling to find what I want.
Better Just quit working completely. The app quits immediately after loading Update: Works most of the time but is very slow and buggy. A number of my devices disappear from groups randomly. They work for a few days after adding them to a group but then disappear. They are still in the device list and can be controlled by voice and motion detector routines (most of the time) but do not show up in a group to be controlled by the app. Horrible programming or hardware; not sure which it is. Both?
Absoloutely refuses to open. Every time I attempt to open it, it just crashes immedietly. I've gotten it to work one time before after its most recent update, but it still won't open. Pretty obnoxious, especially considering it won't even open on my amazon tablet (which I'm using right now). I'll change my review once/if this ever gets fixed. Really annoying.
It has always been difficult to get the results you ask for when using voice commands, especially around music. Recently it has completely broken. The command is heard properly, but the response is so far off the mark, it's ridiculous. The only thing consistent is the incorrect response. There needs to be a 'never do that again' button, just so you can push it back towards what you actually asked for.
I have fun with Alexa 😀 And, yes, she is helpful too. Although Google is my primary assistant, I prefer Alexa in some cases pertaining to Communication. I just wish the App for Windows wasn't such a 💩 I expected it to at least be on par with the mobile app, if not exceed it. That program needs to be burnt to the ground and completely rebuilt. But that's just my opinion.
Alexa device is horrible. Device doesn't understand basic names. You'll have to repeat commands multiple times. The music system is much worse. Anytime I request to play a song it plays something totally different. The music selection Alexa picks is always horrific trash like rock music or country. It's much easier to just do things manually cause Alexa is trash and doesn't help at all.
I love this tech. I am able to connect my door lock with this even tho that option I chose against but still a cool feature. every light in my house has an Alexa controlled light bulb and can be turned any color I want, be turned on and off with your voice command or with a push of a button on the app while you are home or away. the routines that you can set up only make life more manageable and handsfree. the security features are really cool and some are even funny.
WHITE is no longer a color option when creating or editing light Routines. It's been like this since a couple of updates ago. Luckily, I had an old device with v2.2.432925.0 on it, which works correctly, & Smart Switch came to the rescue. Note to all: You should turn OFF Automatic Updates in the Play Store, & make sure you have a copy of every app on another device before doing any updates. This will allow you to revert to a previous version when developers screw up an app with updates.
Alexa gas a lot of potential, in other words Alexa has a lot of room for improvement. The problem is, I don't really ever notice any improvements. That doesn't mean that they aren't trying or making any. Sometimes it wake when I don't expect it to. But then when we (family and friends) do use the wake word we often find ourselves yelling to get Alexa to wake up. Oh one improvement I have noticed. Just as this review doesn't give enough space Alexa didn't allow enough time for feedback.
INFURIATING! I have an Echo Dot and Android App. Alexa does not control my smart lights well at all: several will not turn off/on or change brightness/color with the rest of the group, BUT IT IS DIFFERENT BULBS EACH TIME! Alexa just can't seem to control more than 2 at any given time. PLUS when I've tried to delete the devices and start over it keeps repopulating the device list with all of the smart bulbs I've ever owned in my whole life. I delete them again, Alexa brings them back.😩
Alexa does everything it says it does. I had to learn how to set everything up, afterwards all is working fine. There are plenty of videos to help you set everything up. Not sure about the other models but, I have the Echo 4th Gen and I love it!! Great sound fills the room with a good balance of quality music. Easy to connect to other devices. I live in an apartment so; I like listening to music through my earbuds when I feel like jamming. Thanks Alexa, Darrell
Very inconsistent. Reconfigured, rebooted, reinstalled every known bug fix and still one of the most frustrating things in my day to day. When it works, it's amazing, fun, convenient, helpful. If only.................. I've been a paying subscriber, 2 years, that at best, has had 1 full week that things/commands worked/ responded correctly. I have 3 echo dots connected to 2 wired & 1 Bluetooth speakers, grouped together. More and more recently,I just use Google/YouTube & Bluetooth to 1 speaker.
there are frequent bugs recently with the echo device. random sound changes. if paired with light switches turning off and on at random. echo not syncing up with cell phone app making you unable to make calls. all this has just been within the last week there seems to be a widespread issue because I am not the only one that has had these problems.
I use this exclusively for multi-room audio. It sucks. Opposite of seamless. Can't have anyone else cast but me. Have to connect about 5 times or more to whatever zone I want it to play on. I have to go power cycle all of them about once a week to get them working again. Making it easier to play different music in different rooms would be nice too.
Alexa servers down a lot lately. Not only on this app but on devices also. It also struggles running my smart home most times, saying device is unresponsive, But with native app, device works just fine. If you want something do do VERY BASIC things like tell you the time, or weather, works fine. More complex things like home security, or running smart devices, it's very hit and miss, more miss. Time to switch to Google Nest.
Jan 18, 2022 update is full of bugs!!! With this newest version none of my hue lights are working in the app. App just says "there is a problem" with each light. Device page in app has a banner across the top saying "this page did not load correctly" then suddenly everything is ok, but then a minute later I get the same errors all again. I check the Hue hub and app and there are no issues with either of them. All Echo devices seem to be working, problem is with latest version of the Alexa app!
1-30-22 Glitching 11-18-22Says all devices are unavailable. I can't make announcements or play music from the app to my echo dot. It says unavailable but I can play music if I ask my echo directly. Can't adjust the volume to my echo from the app. The alarms are so crazy. I change the alarm sound and it reverts on its own to a previous sound or didn't change at all. Etc. It was working fine a month or two ago. Barely anything works on the app. I uninstalled and reinstalled but still doesn't work.
Can't disconnect my old Alexa, none of my devices will respond, my alarms randomly don't work. Everything was fine for over a year, got an updated Alexa to hear me a little better, now everything in the app won't work. Really really annoyed, spent a lot of time to get all of my things set up and a lot of money to get them alexa compatible only for everything to be a complete mess. Please update this app and fix it as soon as possible.
I have the Echo dot and its terrible she turns on by herself. She can't understand anyone. It now won't connect to the wifi when there's nothing wrong with the wifi. I am able use the wifi on all my other devices. Its very unreliable and more of a headache. Not helpful and the app is always glitchy ... ALWAYS! Amazon makes terrible devices. I recommend finding another AI device. Waste of time and money
In initial thermostat setup, app could not finish, twice. App sent me to Amaxon, who sent me to vendor. Third set up worked. Sometimes app loses connectivity, then takes long time to reconnect to thermostat. Temp set in app does not always stick. Thermostat shuts off furnace before set temp is reached. App crashes in thermostat schedule set up when I scroll down to Custom, have to instead set up routines. When setting up I once even saw a message in app saying there is a bug in the software.
Does not continually stay connected to Echo, loses profile information, Echo controls in app disappear, often will not play music as the app and Echo are not staying synced, Alexa app throws up errors on setting up voice profile, settings are not staying set. Echo is latest generation. App is updated, after being uninstalled and reinstalled. Echo has been reset. Wifi is CenturyLink high speed. Issue is with Amazon Echo app, or Echo scripts. Please fix!!
I had no problem until recently. None of the 6 echo dots work properly, even the app on my phone is not working properly. My entire house is set thru Alexa and now i cant control the lights, my kids nightlight or white noise, or volume of tv or cannot shut timer off. Timers and alarms keep going off no matter how many times we attempt to stop it using echo dots and phone apps. I blamed the internet for a while but it turns out it's amazon. Wifi has been working fine.
Lately, I find myself more often turning to my Google dot or Google in general because Alexa is less and less responsive, illogical, unreliable and inconsistent. I find that I have to rephrase my requests several times before I get a response somewhat close to what I am asking. Music wise, I find that just when I get a set request working, something is changed and that option no longer exists. Using Alexa to control firestick is a joke and the app is slow and freezes up. Amazon doesn't care!
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The Dot is better at responding and doing what I ask and messes up the least. *Very DISSAPPOINTED* *update* out of the blue Alexa has lost my cameras...Alexa app says cameras are linked but devices are not listed. They show up on the network and work fine on the Reolink app via phone and computers....Big FAIL Alexa!
Can be helpful and entertaining but sometimes extremely frustrating, very inefficient, inconsistent and unable to perform. Sorely lacking in bilingual Spanish-English programming, and despite hundreds of feedback suggestions for improvement, Amazon is not being responsive to the suggestions. Also, Alexa's inability to respond to sensitive or adult topics, even with censorship supposedly reduced upon request (allows music to be explicit), seems too juvenile.
So Easy, so convenient.. I just wish there was a feature and new feature list for every month.. people have no idea everything she does on her own, lead alone with supported devices. Also needs to be compatible with sling and channel up and down on fire TV. I hate the over simple remote, b/c people like flipping thru channels to find new shows & things to watch. I do have a 3rd generation having issues reconnecting but I know I can call Amazon 24/7 for help & replacements.(I procrastinate)
Work work work. Very complicated to connect with phone when you have multiple echos. Echo device sync is terrible. Playing from my s21 to the display Echo is always falling and can't play. Device is paired but not the audio. What's the point. Stupid and intrusive products. Just use your phone and legs. Dump Alexa. The best thing it does is shopping lists and timerss. Otherwise it's very frustrating to use
Apple music is so poorly integrated into this app that I have no choice but to believe it's intentional. I can't access my playlist, you have use voice control FOR EVERYTHING and that's shaky at best to reach songs because it constantly switches to Amazon music, and you can't queue what you want to hear next, and choosing what you want to hear next solely voice controlled which again sucks. The app is SUPER glitchy as well. FIX THIS
It doesn't even connect to other Amazon products. It was working great when I first got it a few days ago, now nothing responds to it Edit: It's been about 7 months since my last review and the updates have been great. It connects much easier now to other products and the performance has been DRASTICALLY improved. Jumped from 1 ⭐ to ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Not as intuitive or smart. I ask her to turn the lights on as my alarm sounds, and it turns it on right after I finish the request. Sometimes I'll ask her to turn off the lights in the room, and she will only turn 3 off out of 4, and I check my light's app and they are connected, so I just do it manually, or sometimes I just ask her twice. It's a bit annoying because it shouldn't be hard, and I'm really considering just getting a google nest.
Really unreliable. I don't have Echo, just the app on my Xiaomi 11t. In the product description, that phone says it is Alexa hands free enabled, but evidently not. It worked once. After that, it's been nothing but a headache. For Amazon, it's important to know that this reflects on Echo and your smart home features. I wouldn't trust them for a nanosecond. The functionality of this app is so intermittent, so squirrely, that after several hours of trying to get it to work, I've finally given up.
Device has poor abilities to listen to what the user is asking. Several times a week she will go on about tangents unrelated to the search objective but I guess that's what happens when you're using Bing as a backbone. Has difficulty even turning on the correct lights. It's like having a second wife, tangents and poor listening skills.
The slowest non responsive app on my phone. It's as if Amazon is fine with beta version all the time. The app makes me question owning Echo devices at all. Because if I didn't own seven Echos, I would never, ever use this app again. It freezes, malfunctions, or can't do what I want every single time I use it.
When it works, it works great. However after the last app update, from the time I open the app to the time it actually opens is ridiculous. It stays on the black Alexa screen for about 30-60 seconds, if I want to go from the home section to the devices one that take another 30-60 seconds. I'm on my own wifi that works fast for literally every other app, it streams my Amazon music at the snap of a finger. So Bezos I think ya need another update.
Absolutely useless. I got one of these from my job and it's impossible to connect any other streaming service to it. I think they just have the option in there but they figured you'll be forced to use only Amazon services if you can't connect any other. I have had Google home before and that's 1000 more user friendly and reliable that this piece of trash
If you heard about Alexas ability to turn on lights or music automatically when you return home... Look elsewhere. All the location feature does is notify me to do thing I told it to do. It also doesn't hear well. It can play music on commamd in the generic sense. But ask it to play a band or musician that isn't among the most famous in the world?... Good luck! Very limited usefulness. Seems like it's better at programming people to use IT, rather than responding to people's needs.
While I can say the app has access to a lot of functionality for my devices, it is really really slow and buggy. On top of that, when I am using the app for my shopping list the app restarts every time the screen times out. This has been a problem for a long time. Now to add to it, my shopping list gets bombarded with advertisements while I am trying to shop. It is very aggravating as the app is already slow af that they added advertisements dragging it down further.
Keeps losing connection with numerous lights throughout my home. Saying light not responding, please check the power supply and network connection. Switches are never turned off, so power supply is fine. Network is perfectly fine because when using the corresponding app that goes with the light, it works perfectly fine. Its only Alexa that is not corresponding.
Most unreliable app ever. Works really good sometimes, others not. On phone for hours at a time with support having me reset and initialize each echo device in my house not once, not twice, but three times with no resolutions. Very frustrating! I truly hope no one else has the same issues. Good luck. Excellent and patient support people, I feel sorry for them.
Functionality breaks at a rapidly increasing pace. I can no longer reliably control my lights since the last update. Alexa now also follows up with really annoying unhelpful remarks. I set dozens of timers when cooking and I don't need follow-ups like "do you want to play a game while we wait?". I'm ready to abandon this platform and try other alternatives.
I pay 4.99 per month for Amazon Music. Was cool at first because I created a playlist of the songs I liked. "Alexa, had this to Tony playlist" then I could go on the app, and just jump to a certain song. I can still play thr playlist, but it wont allow me to jump to a certain song. I have bout 70 songs on the list, and I have to manually skip one by one. Whats worst, it no longer shows me the songs I've added.. fix this please
Alexa overall is good as it let's you control tons of different devices and has lots of supported products and set alarns, reminders, etc. It can be annoying at times, especially when it says, "By the way, did you know..." and then goes off on some tangent I'm never interested in. There's NO way to completely turn this 'feature' off.
I'm so frustrated. I got the echo show 5 and was so excited to set up chore charts with reminders for my family, sync my calendar, etc. However, this app is not user friendly. It says I can add/edit things in my skills but I surely cannot figure out how to go about doing that. Each person in my family has their profile but somehow I have 2 for myself and cannot delete one. So far it's just been one frustration after another. So much for making life easier. Maybe I'm missing something. 🤷🏼♀️
I love Alexa, sometimes I wonder if it compromises my security because seems like more and more is being attached to a program. The ease of use in regards to shopping lists, music, tv and security etc is incredible. I'm old enough to remember life without an app, cellphone and ,for us, even microwave cooking and though I realize it's not all good it's not bad either. For someone who forgets a lot due to medication, Amazon Alexa has been an incredible innovation. Thank you
I only use the app for setting up my Alexa, and managing the devices it controls. It works alright, but has been buggy when setting up, editing, or deleting devices. I know it might be complications between different device manufacturers, or my phone, or the router, but the problems only pop up here. Getting assistance through chat was combersome, but I think they helped fix the problem. Three stars.
very hard to navigate, the screens are not intuitive at all and trying to find help is impossible. really your only choice is to live without alexa and it settings being useful to you or going through the pain in the butt off trying to navigate screens and menus and turning on and off various features and using trial and error hoping to get close to what you want alexa to do.
Terrible. Echos need to be unplugged and plugged back in almost daily. Can't play MY playlists in a routine. Just stops playing at random times, sometimes requiring starting a playlist over again other times requiring a reboot. Rebooting Echos can't be done from the app! WHY? I understand if it's not being responsive at all, but you should be able to TRY to reboot Echos from the app. It's a very poor design and the home screen is only useful the first couple of times you use the app.
99% of what you ask, you hear, 'Im sorry I dont know that'. You can get the weather and basic math problems, thats it. The app may be the least intuitive and most complex app I have ever used. Absolutely useless and the worst menu in the history of apps. Amazon creates the most difficult and faulty tech in the world. Try connecting a device that isn't an amazon product? Now it says 'looking for echo devices'???
This is a solid 4 star app. It looks halfway decent and does what it's supposed to do. Here's how it could be better: -Customizable home screen when opening the app. Sometimes it'll take a full 5-10 seconds to load the home screen that will have buttons I never use. -It would be very helpful if this app had any sort of support for widgets on my phone's home screen. -Stop trying to market things in an already difficult to navigate app. Create a separate marketplace inside the app.
